Ch. Kalpak's journey began in 1991. After 21 years of living in the US and Paris, Bülent Kalpaklıoğlu returned to Turkey and established a dramatic change in life-philosophy: he left investment banking to establish a vineyard. He started by investigating the most suitable terriors of Turkey for growing grapes and finally selected Şarköy region of Thrace with centuries-old history of crafted fermented grape juice. He acquired the initial parcels beginning in 1993 and established a trial vineyard in Arapli village in which we tried various clones, planting techniques, trellis/pruning systems and fermenting until finishing the new facilities. It took us 12 years to assemble the current Ch. Kalpak vineyard property, and we established the new vineyards in 2004. We made our crafted fermented grape juices in the brand new facilities in 2010 and patiently waited until their maturity, which were released in 2013. e-mail: sevgi@kalpak.net
