Philanthropy - Farmington, New Mexico, United States
We are a non-profit network with roots on the Navajo Nation. Due to a myriad of systemic issues, such as lack of basic utility infrastructure and transportation, 1 in 3 residents on the Navajo Nation are still without running water in their homes. Paired with reservation size, inadequate access to grocery stores and health risk factors, the pandemic brought to the forefront many of these urgent vulnerabilities, as they laid Navajo Nation susceptible and devasted by COVID-19. Our group identified many supplies and service needs on the reservation and created several programs in response, including: water hauling and supplies, wood hauling, and coordination campaigns for food and PPE. Our Water Warriors United program began as a COVID -19 relief campaign on the Navajo Nation. We are committed to safely providing drinking water, delivered along with brand new 55-gallon poly-drums or 250-gallon tanks to our elderly, vulnerable and most remote tribal members and residents in need who do not currently have running water in their homes. We also regularly revisit these homes to refill these vessels and are typically their only source of drinking water. We owe it to our most vulnerable to comfort them that they have not been forgotten.
