Cooper Rice-Brading was an elite junior sportsmen and Sydney Grammar School student, approaching his HSC year, when a routine MRI revealed a rare and aggressive osteosarcoma (bone cancer). He had only weeks prior to this, turned seventeen.Early in Cooper's sarcoma treatment he possessed a compelling need to spare others from the disparity he identified between hIs cancer, and other childhood/adolescent cancers . As a result, he incepted the Cooper Rice-Brading Foundation to raise funds for sarcoma research. Our family, together with a Board of highly committed highly skilled individuals who govern and drive the Foundation, ensure Cooper's vision and legacy live on. The Cooper Rice-Brading Foundation for sarcoma research aims to address and reverse the great disparity that exists between the mortality rates of sarcoma and the current research attention it receives. There has been no quantifiable change in sarcoma survival rates in well over three decades and this cancer receives less than 1% of the overall cancer funding budget. Throughout the course of his treatment, Cooper remained unrelenting in his refusal to accept his plight, using his situation to raise over $500,000 for sarcoma research through his Foundation. On the 24th of August 2017 Cooper's courageous battle with this insidious disease came to an end in the arms of his loving family, who continue to work to preserve Cooper's legacy through the foundation that proudly bears his name.
