Organized in 1892, the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department has provided fire, rescue and formerly emergency medical services to the Croton-on-Hudson community, completely done by over 150 dedicated VOLUNTEERS.Our membership ranges from members 18 to over 80 years old from all walks of life. We are students, teachers, parents and neighbors who have all come together for one common cause - to answer YOUR call for help.The members of Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department balance all of life's commitments - including work and family obligations - to give their time selflessly to their fellow Crotonite. The bonds made among our members are strong, and more often than not they become more then friends, and become one big family.In 1982, realizing the potential to tap the abilities of Croton's youth, we formed Explorer Post 2089. This group of 14-17 year olds work closely with our members, training to become firefighters upon their 18th birthday. To date, we have seen many of these young members remain with the department and work their way up the ranks - all the way to Chief.
