Cultural Arts for Everyone: Where Memphis Meets the World!A nonprofit 501(3)c organization founded in 2000, CAFÉ (Cultural Arts for Everyone) has been a pioneer in presenting culturally diverse programming, designed to enrich the lives of school-age children and their families, and has presented more than 70 outstanding, culturally diverse music, dance and theatrical performances to more than 75,000 Memphians, half of whom were students ages 5 to 18. Past performances have included: Wynton Marsalis, Hugh Masekela, Al Jarreau, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Spirit of Uganda, John Amos in Haley's Comet, Nai Ni Chen Dance Company, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Regina Carter, Boys Choir of Harlem, Ballet Hispanico, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre.CAFÉ is the only presenting arts organization of its kind in the city as well as the state of Tennessee. Now, more than ever, there is an increased need for the performing arts in the Memphis community. CAFÉ performance series responds to this need and it has consistently drawn a more culturally, ethnically, racially, and socio-economically diverse crowd of individuals. The CAFÉ series not just a performance; emphasis is on enjoying an excellent intimate cultural experience that may include master classes for students, professional development workshops for teachers, talkbacks and receptions with the artists. CDFM was recently accepted into the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Partners in Education Program, which supports partnerships between arts organizations and local school systems to advance arts-based professional development for teachers.
