The Cultural Philanthropy Foundation (formerly Achates Philanthropy Foundation) is an independent UK charity which was established in 2016 and is best known for the annual Achates Philanthropy Prize. The Foundation campaigns for the democratisation of culture through the creation of platforms, such as our artist-led symposium, All That's Been Revealed, in 2021, and the virtual week-long conference, Art, Audiences and Money. In 2020. We believe that culture creates 8 types of value, which we advocate for. We understand that in order to ensure a society where everyone has access to culture, as is our human right, we need to articulate and celebrate that value. This is the focus of our sector-wide Culture is Creating campaign.Who funds and owns culture is a form of power, so the democratistation of cultural philanthropy is a central pillar of our work. We promote the idea that culture belongs to and is the responsibility of us all and that anyone can be a cultural philanthropist through initiatives, such as The Achates Philanthopy Prize. Culture builds empathy with and across communities, and philanthropy is a barometer of the relationship cultural organisations have with their communities and helps them to enable sustainability and relevance.Trustees of the Cultural Philanthropy Foundation:Caroline McCormick (Chair)Alex ChealesSarah Purisa MaguireJosh CockcroftBill SwainsonPaul Owens
