Days of Courage is a mentoring program for organizations dealing with youth. The aim of this program is to reduce the incidents of bullying of youth within these organizations. The process begins when interest is generated about the program by a school principal, guidance counselor, parent or teacher. The school then selects an adult facilitator who will work with Days of Courage to bring the program day to the school. The preparatory program involves the inclusion of the adult facilitator and student mentors from across the student population. A teacher's guidebook and an accompanying workbook are available as a resource. It outlines 6 lessons to assist in the training to help implement the program in the school. The school program can involve 30 to 100 students including the mentors in the preparatory program. It can also include the staff, parents, and members of the business community. The program is a very interactive, experiential, and intensive six hour study. Our goal at the end of the program is to have trained the students *to recognize violence and replace it with peace*to recognize racism and replace it with acceptance*to recognize hatred and replace it with love*to pass on this knowledge and behaviour to their respective populations*to become student leaders working towards eliminating bullying in their communities. They will understand that others share in their concerns and that the people around them care. They will realize that we all share common needs and desires and that we all deserve to be loved and respected.
