The welcome to the National Education Policy 2020 envisions on India centred education system that contributes directly to transforming our Nation sustainably into an equitable and vibrant knowledge society, by providing high quality to all.Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) as defined by UNESCO and UNICEF is the holistic development of a child's social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs in order to build a solid and broad foundation for Life Long Learning and wellbeing. ECCE promotes brain development and has positive long term economic benefits. It is therefore of the utmost importance that every child has access to quality Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE). Presently, quality ECCE is not available to most young children particularly children from economically disadvantaged families. Investment in ECCE has the potential to give all young children such access enabling all children to participate and flourish in the educational system throughout their lives ECCE is perhaps the greatest and most powerful equalizer, whereas over 85% of the child's cumulative brain development occurs prior to the age of 3-8 years indicating the critical importance of appropriate care and stimulation of the brain development and growth. ECCE ideally consists of flexible, multifaceted, multilevel, play based, activity based, and discovery based learning about e.g., alphabets, Languages, Numbers, counting, colours, shapes, indoor and outdoor play, puzzles and logical thinking, problem solving, drawing/painting and other visual art, craft, drama and puppetry, music and movement. The general objectives of pre-primary education are outlined in the Legislation governing basic education. The purpose of preprimary education is to support children's growth into humanity and into ethically responsible membership of the society and to provide them with knowledge and skills needed in life.
