The Egan Maritime Institute is the island's only non-profit organization devoted exclusively to celebrating Nantucket's seafaring heritage. Topics include a variety of special interests relating to Nantucket's maritime traditions, history, and culture.\\The Nantucket Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum preserves the memory of those Islanders who risked their lives to save shipwrecked mariners. The non-profit museum takes visitors inside maritime history, featuring over 5,000 objects from famous shipwrecks and lifesaving equipment used to save seafarers in trouble.
