Elimu Impact Evaluation Centre, founded by McGill University Professor Matthieu Chemin in 2006, is a Kenyan NGO that undertakes the rigorous evaluation of development projects in order to identify the most effective ways to reduce poverty. Elimu uses the microeconomic analysis of randomized experiments to achieve this goal. Elimu is currently measuring the effects of remote education support, remote legal aid, and micro-hydro electrification initiatives while working alongside the World Bank and the Kenyan Judiciary on various projects driven by the broader goal of evaluating the effect of institutions on economic development. Since 2006, Elimu has also been involved in the impact evaluation of community-based micro-hydro electrification, health insurance, and legal aid.
