Fund-raising - , ,
Ellie's Fund was set up after the death of 14 year old Ellie Othick-Bowmaker in February this year. During the 3 years Ellie fought 2 brain tumours she helped to raise £25,000, inspiring others to join in.\\16,000 people will be diagnosed with brain tumours this year and in 5 years time over 13,000 of those people will have died – a shocking statistic I am sure you will agree.\\At Ellie's Fund we are working with other local charities to raise money for research that will be carried out at St James' Hospital, Leeds in relation to brain tumours, not just in children but in adults as well. Only through research will things improve for brain tumour sufferers.\\We will also offer support to families of those suffering from brain tumours. From Scarborough and the Yorkshire Coast patients have to travel to Leeds for treatment and the day is exhausting for all concerned both physically and emotionally. Little support is given to families in these areas and we intend to offer cleaning, cooking and even gardening services to them so they can return home to a meal on the table, a clean house and a mowed lawn – it's the least we can offer to make their life easier.\\And finally, for the moment at least, we are raising money to buy a property where those with brain tumours and their families can enjoy a short break, somewhere that happy memories can be made. We are not sure where it will be just yet, somewhere near to Scarborough, but what we do know is that it will be called Ellie's Place. \\LET'S BEAT BRAIN TUMOURS!
