Well the easy answer is that it is a theoretical perspective which maintains that if you can accept that everything you do is a choice you can be free to make the choices that make you happy. The goal is to help you understand the simple truth that everything we do is a choice. You can strive to be the most selfless, positive, caring person in the world or you can choose to be the meanest person in the world. Now understandably many of us don't want to contemplate that we have the ability to choose because therefore we are the ones responsible for our lives. Many of us want to believe that we are at the mercy of the world around us.
