Fund-raising - Toronto, Ontario, Canada
The Fort York Foundation is an independent, federally-registered Canadian charity that fundraises to revitalize Fort York National Historic Site in Toronto. We help the City of Toronto, which owns and operates Fort York, raise funds for capital projects, such as the new Fort York Visitor Centre, which opened its doors in 2014. The Foundation operates with a part-time executive director and part-time administrator, working closely with a volunteer board of directors. Our current projects are: (1) to complete the Fort York Visitor Centre project; (2) rehabilitate historic Garrison Common (part of Fort York National Historic Site, where the 1813 Battle of York concluded); and (3) expand the Fort York Acquisitions Fund, which gives City of Toronto Museum and Heritage Services the capacity to acquire historic artifacts to support the interpretation of the site.
