FAJS is an independent, not-for-profit organisation established in Australia that facilitates private-sector funding to support collaborations between academic institutions, industry and government in Australia and Japan.Our mission is to elevate the profile of Australia-Japan collaboration in science, technology and innovation and support the people who are transforming the bilateral relationship through these partnerships. The Foundation for Australia-Japan Studies (FAJS) was an initiative of the Australia-Japan Foundation (Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade). Rio Tinto became the inaugural industry partner in 2014, when it committed financial support for the promotion of academic and research links between Australian and Japanese universities, industry and government.The Rio Tinto Australia-Japan Collaboration Program is the first program established by the Foundation for Australia-Japan Studies. The Program has been funded by Rio Tinto Group for the purpose of contributing to the Australia-Japan bilateral relationship through education and research collaboration between academia, industry and government, particularly in the areas of science, technology and innovation.The Program is carried out by the Rio Tinto Professorial Fellow (the Rio Tinto Fellow), whose role is to identify and promote bilateral collaborative research and other activities to be funded under the Program.The inaugural Rio Tinto Fellow, Professor Jenny Corbett, has been appointed for 2018-2021 and is seconded by the Griffith University Asia Institute to the School of Engineering at The University of Tokyo.
