Friends of People's Prep is a nonprofit organization dedicating to providing financial support and resources to the students, alumni, and staff of People's Prep Charter School of Newark, NJ. Our wide network of volunteers provides support through fund raising, internship opportunities, corporate sponsorship, and mentorship.As Newark's only stand alone charter high school, People's Prep Charter School is proud to be part of Newark's groundbreaking inroads in improving public education. Our mission is simple: to prepare all of our students to graduate from the college of their choice as informed, involved, and resilient citizens.Since our founding in 2011, People's Prep has successfully provided a high-performing, college-preparatory high school for Newark students and their families. Our students demonstrate a marked improvement in standardized testing, school attendance, and a broad range of academic and non-academic measures. People's Prep serves a diverse population - 100 percent of our students are students of color, 90 percent live at or below the poverty line, and more than one third have documented learning disabilities (the largest population of any high school in Newark).Despite these challenges, we believe that all students can and will attend and succeed beyond high school. Our mission demands that our entire educational program, both inside and outside of the classroom, is centered on college readiness achieved through a focus on academic excellence, character development, and student leadership. 100 percent of our most recent graduating class applied to at least one four-year college and 95 percent of our graduates will be attending a college or a trade program this Fall.The influence and support of the Friends of People's Prep is vital to the progress of our mission.
