The Geological Institute was set up in the year 1905, in the Department of Geology, Presidency University, Kolkata (erstwhile Presidency College, founded on July 17, 1892). It is a student-run academic organisation, the first of its kind in Asia, established to foster extra-academic acumen among the earth-science community by organising seminars, workshops, meetings and journal publications.The annual journal of the Geological Institute, Bhu-Vidya, a bilingual annual is intended to help students venture, think and express beyond their class-room learning, on the very strength of the latter itself.The Institute also aims to establish and maintain close relationships with all its members, which includes all the alumni and ex-faculty of the Department of Geology, Presidency University, considering it as a duty and something that is essential to uphold its integrity.The Institute will strive to prosper and fulfill the motives of the organisation in the years ahead and will achieve greater heights with their diligent endeavours.
