www.giveusnames.com About Give Us Names (aka Our Heavy Hearts) Give Us Names, Inc. is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization seeking to improve the lives of displaced Colombians. Our goal is to tell their stories in such a way that those who hear them will not rest until displacement ends, justice is brought to the perpetrators, and the rights of the displaced are recognized and protected. Plan of Action (aka Our Not-So-Impossible Dreams) It's impossible to solve a crisis that no one knows exists. The first step of ending displacement is to give it a face and a name. Give Us Names will release a documentary in early 2011 that tells the story of Abelardo and Olga Joya. They lived on a farm in the Colombian village of La Floresta with their five children, cultivating food crops to take to market. This past summer, their farm was wrongfully fumigated as a result of the United States' "War on Drugs." With their crops destroyed, they were forced to leave their home and go to the city in search of a new life. We hope that by telling their story a couple of things happen: that no more Colombians will be displaced by our tax dollars, and that we will be able to help this family as they search for a place to call home. Join us on this journey of Leaving La Floresta.
