MISSION Global Empowerment Theatre (GET) is an educational theatre and literacy organization empowering underserved young people around the globe. We provide a stage from which young voices, silenced by poverty and inequality, can be heard by peers, teachers, families, communities and the rest of the world. We use self-expression as a tool to educate, inspire, and empower young people to transform their lives and positively impact our global community. PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS - GET works primarily with school-aged children in the classrooms of underserved communities. Our aim is to use a blend of applied and educational theatre techniques to address the complex struggles of children living in poverty as well as the broader concerns of their communities. Through dramatic activities, ensemble work and playwriting, GET invites students to tell stories about their lives, concerns, and dreams. Students construct their own scenes, poems, and songs focusing on their experiences within their communities. GET workshops offer students opportunities to practice the art of storytelling and gives students a chance to voice issues that are important to them. ENGLISH LITERACY - In many countries, failure to master the English language means a severe loss of opportunity. Competency in English can be the difference between a harsh life working in a field and a university education. Our goal is to use playwriting and devised theatre techniques to reinforce valuable skills in the written and oral communication of English. Not all of our programs place emphasis on English literacy (see our website). TEACHER TRAINING - Whenever GET conducts a student workshop in a country there is a rigorous local teacher training component involved. TEACHING ARTISTS PROGRAM - This program includes focused, in-depth training both through classroom learning and through partnering with a GET Core Instructor to teach one of our student workshops.
