Arts and Crafts - N/A, N/A, N/A
For the first 58 years of my life I had no clue that I had artistic talent. I always knew that I liked art and design and was fascinated by many artists and their work. I always doodled and from time to time tried my hand at drawing. I was never told that I had talent and no one ever suggested that I take lessons. On my 58th birthday my better half, Nancy, said she had an idea to help me relax from the stresses of running a business. When I got home from work that day she said "I am taking you for your gift", and, to my surprise, we ended up at an art store. She said "Buy whatever you need to start drawing," and I did. Now is where the fun begins.I never had lessons and never knew how to draw from life. My only frame of reference was photographs, so I decided to work from a photo that I found on the internet. Low and behold I started to draw, and a picture appeared from my hand that was like nothing else I had ever done. Now I was hooked and for the next 10 months I drew and drew and drew images from the internet. In January, 2007, we were on vacation in The Bahamas. While there we went to Harbor Island for a day trip. That day changed my art life forever. I met Mr. Herman Higs, a fishing guide. He was very willing and very excited to be photographed. When I got home I went through the images and started to do his portrait. While working on it I realized that I really loved to draw portraits.
