Greenstein & McDonald's primary expertise involves suing landlords -- throughout the Bay Area -- for the harm they cause to tenants by breaching their duties. We are one of the most successful tenant firms in the Bay Area. In Pierre et al v. Cox (2010), Greenstein & McDonald represented 13 tenants in a legal action against their landlord for his violation of Oakland's Just Cause for Eviction Ordinance ("Measure EE"). The case was heavily contested for over 2 ½ years, and the jury trial took nearly 8 weeks. The tenants had their rights vindicated, achieving excellent results after trial - over $538,000 in damages and $1,052,400 in attorney fees. Greenstein and McDonald settled Davis v. Busk in Hayward, CA in May 2004 for $3,825,000 on behalf of more than 100 tenants, one of the largest settlements for tenants in Bay Area history. This was a case which was heavily contested by the Defendant for more than 3 years.
