GridThink is a clean energy start-up company that intends to commercial a novel grid-scale electrical power product. GridThink's grid-storage solution is clean, renewable, and best of all, inexpensive. We aim to store large amounts of electrical power for as low as 5 cents per kWh. The addition of solar and wind assets to the electrical power grid is accelerating a transition from traditional grid-energy to a distributed energy resources (DER) paradigm. Additionally, this benefits the decarbonization of grid-based energy production and helps to battle climate change and localized air pollution from traditional fossil fuel powered production assets. However, the episodic nature of wind and solar power production, and location of DERs bring new challenges in grid infrastructure, stabilization, and a need for storage. The grid storage capacity necessary to match this expansion is growing exponentially. There are a number of novel solutions, however, many have cost and scaling drawbacks. GridThink aims to deploy a scalable, distributed, grid-storage solution that matches the need for the renewable expansion and is both robust and cost effective.GridThink is licensing the key technology from a DoD-funded, research and development partner, NDCPower. The partner has developed an electrochemical-thermal technology storage mechanism, which was developed and perfected over the course of 8 years and with $20M+ in government funding and $2M in private financing. This phase allowed for the technology to be substantially de-risked and prepared for entry into commercial deployment.
