Hand in Hand Southern Africa started its operations in 2006.Our VisionHand in Hand Southern Africa's vision is poverty alleviation through job creation. Our MissionOur mission is to reduce poverty amongst the underprivileged. This is achieved through economic and social empowerment of the poorest and most marginalised people (mainly women), the youth and those living with disabilities in rural and peri urban areas by creating enterprises and jobs. Our GoalOur goal is to create half a million jobs by 2020.Hand in Hand Southern Africa aims to raise the income and living standards of the most vulnerable members of society, especially women, through a holistic approach to poverty alleviation within communities. We achieve this by empowering the poor to take charge of their lives through SHG formation and enterprise development. Our SHG model empowers rural communities to become self-reliant, instead of relying on donor grants or government assistance. We facilitate access to funding for community initiatives and encourage grassroots participation in project design, ensuring local buy-in to our programmes. We also engage the private sector by creating partnerships that promote local economic development in poor areas.
