Located on beautiful Harstine Island near Shelton, WA overlooking the breathtaking Olympic Mountains and access to thousands of acres of rainforest and old growth forests, Harstine Dog Behavior Center is the perfect place to train your dog!Owned and operated by Coreen Martineau, who has worked with and around dogs her entire life, including doing dog-sledding with her mother and their pack of 5 Alaskan Malamutes when she was a child. She has 30 years of dog experience in almost every niche of dog care and activities, and has been a part of dog showing, weight pulling, agility, obedience trials, conformation, breeding, whelping and raising puppies, and administering first-aid when necessary. When she was 5 years old her parents purchased a commercial boarding kennel. She learned a great deal about professional pet care, filling every position in the kennel from kennel tech where she spent hours scraping, hosing, disinfecting and preparing dog kennels, to feeding tech, which included preparing 180 bowls of food on Christmas, as well as medications to mix in and administer.She worked in the office and learned a great deal about business administration, accounting, taxes, payroll and most important, customer and public relations, and she learned well how to develop a relationship with the customer that extended far beyond the credit card. She helped develop and operate the doggy daycare, where she learned to control and work with a pack of dogs numbering in the 20's to 30's and absorbed a great deal of information on dog behavior, psychology, communication and body language. She also assisted in obedience classes at the kennel, learning a wide variety of training techniques, as well as how dogs think, learn and how to deal with various behavior problems and issues.
