With a focus on first-stage, innovative research, Heart Research Australia has made significant contributions to the field of cardiology and continues to work towards improving the lives of those affected by heart disease. Under the leadership of CEO Nicci Dent, the organization remains committed to its mission of advancing heart health through research and innovation.
Heart Research Australia is a charity that raises money to fund research into new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat heart disease. The government doesn't provide funding for this type of research, so we rely on donations from our supporters. We were started by a group of doctors at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney in 1986 who wanted to find ways to reduce the number of people dying from heart disease and the impact it has on families and communities. We used to be called North Shore Heart Research Foundation, but we changed our name to Heart Research Australia to better reflect our mission.
