Helen Browning took on the tenancy and management of Eastbrook Farm, a 1350 acre mixed farm, in 1986. Over the next eight years she converted it to organic husbandry, and established pig and poultry enterprises to complement the dairy, beef, sheep and arable units.She also founded 'Eastbrook Farm Organic Meats' and more recently (1997) the Helen Browning's Organic brand which retails pork products to Sainsbury's, Tesco and Budgens. Her pub The Royal Oak, in the middle of the farm, is listed by Michelin in their top 500 food pubs 2010; by Alistar Sawday as a gold award winner in his 'Special Places' Pub and Inns 2009 and for Good Pub Guide 2010 & 2011.In October 2010 the Soil Association appointed Helen Browning as its new Director. She takes over from Patrick Holden who stood down in September 2010 following 15 years in the role. Helen will take up the post in early spring.
