Holox Technologies has developed a revolutionary computer-programmable holographic method to create efficient, rugged, low-cost 3D optical films that stands ready to cut LCD power consumption by over 50% and create new less-expensive platforms for solar photovoltaic energy generation. These films, which combine many optical functions in one thin layer, offer performance and cost advantages in backlit displays for cell phones, mobile devices, TVs, monitors, and laptops plus heads-up displays, flexible screens, and digital signage. A cell phone will be thinner, have 25-50% more battery life, use fewer LEDs, have lower cost and yet higher brightness. TV power consumption will be cut by more than 100W.The films can also be designed to concentrate solar energy without tracking motors, combine several optical elements into one, and even split wavelengths to efficiently beam light to horizontal multi-junction cells. The efficient tracking and spectral separation possible with Holox films enable potential break-through efficiencies over 50% with a dramatically lower cost-per-watt that is competitive with fossil fuel power generation. The Holox mastering process is computer generated so application-specific films can be rapidly created for particular display or solar specifications and sizes and will be optimized for desired tradeoffs of energy, cost, brightness, thinness, and wavelengths. The patented Holox FringeWriterTM mastering tool is also the only platform that enables fast programming and writing of 3D masters for nano-imprint lithography manufacturing.
