Civic & Social Organization - Houston, Texas, United States
Ibrahim Islamic Center is located in the historic Third Ward in Houston, Texas. We are a community of believers adhering to the Qur'an and the life traditions of Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him). We are in association with the leadership and vision of Imam W. Deen Mohammed (1933 – 2008, may Allah be pleased with him). The name and vision for Ibrahim Islamic Center is inspired by two personalities in Islam. The first one is Prophet Ibrahim (Upon him be Peace), who moved into the wilderness of Arabia and eventually built the Ka'aaba with his son Ismail (Upon him be Peace). It is through his leadership that the foundation was laid and he left an everlasting legacy on that city and eventually religion itself. The second personality that inspired the name Ibrahim Islamic Center is Imam Ibrahim Kamaluddin. He was the first Imam of the Houston Masjid of Al-Islam. He was instrumental in community activism and interfaith work and encouraged the community to do the same Mission •Ibrahim Islamic Center is a community-based center that works to enrich the lives of Muslims and non Muslims. This is accomplished by delivering a range of direct services to the community. Vision •We envision a vibrant Islamic community that appreciates the inherent worth of every individual. We envision a thriving Islamic center, businesses and a competitive Islamic school. • We also seek to foster a dynamic and vibrant space for all by inspiring the larger community towards civic engagement. This is done by working for social and economic empowerment and human dignity beyond the barriers of religion, ethnicity, and nationality. Our agenda stem from our spiritual convictions about community service, human compassion and social justice.
