IIM Women for Social Action (IIMWSA) is a global group of diverse alumnae from various Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), united by a shared purpose - to make a difference through social impact. The group comprises women from different batches and industries, who employ their skills and resources to research, streamline, and support on-ground projects that help people in need. Guided by three core principles - equity, inclusivity, and dignity - IIMSWA seeks to effect long-term social change through various impactful projects. IIMWSA has over 600 volunteers - all are women graduates of one of India's twenty IIMs. But mostly, IIMWSA is a spirit, that organically found form this year as a result of a once-in-century pandemic. It is a sisterhood of socially conscious women who could not sit on the sidelines and ignore the soul-crushing stories of desperation brought about by Covid-19.Loosely formulated since March 2020, IIMWSA started with the initiative of a dripfeed of financial support to families who lost livelihood due to the lockdown. The Covid Relief Kitchen followed soon after, and it provided meals to communities impacted by lockdown-induced loss of livelihood. We were deeply involved in the GharBhejo campaign which helped newly jobless workers get back safely to their homes in villages far away. Our ability to support these initiatives that kept growing in scope and delivery helped build our confidence in the power of collective action. Thus, IIMWSA was born.
