We have lost several of our locally owned businesses. There are too many empty storefronts, and local businesses are often passed up for the big-box stores. Customers don't understand the positive impact that supporting the local retailers and service companies has on the community. We want to create a "Buy Local" campaign. This would make the biggest impact if we established an Independent Business Alliance with national affiliation with AMIBA. It will take some money to get started right. We will need a logo designed, a web site, local seminars & workshops led by the national association, and we will need to form a steering committee and send representatives to the national conferences. We will also need to educate the community and develop a cooperative promotion, advertising & purchasing campaign. We'll need to print and distribute a local directory, bumper stickers & window decals. There will be national dues and a local staff to pay before we are fully established. There will, of course, be membership dues and local fundraisers to maintain us long term, but I am attempting to secure a Pepsi Refresh Grant to get us started. If the profile is actually accepted, I will be contacting EVERYONE to vote for us. Wish us luck!
