InnoTech Association is a nonprofit organisation dedicated to the use of technology for helping the disadvantaged and disabled. Our Missions1. Promote the concept of helping people through innovation and technology in the community.2. Develop and procure technology products that can help improve the livelihood of the disadvantaged (including the disabled). Recruit volunteers to demonstrate and instruct people on how to use these products.3. Organise activities for the disadvantaged to enhance their knowledge of innovation and technology.4. Provide free tuition on technology knowledge to the disadvantaged, in particular the children from underprivileged families.IntroductionWe noticed that most NGOs mainly concentrate on providing monetary resources or volunteering manpower to directly help people. Although these are good deeds, they cannot intrinsically increase the abilities of the disadvantaged or disabled. For example, distributing monetary resources may help disabled recipients purchase food and supplies for their lives, but does not necessarily provide them with long term solutions. In this situation, resources could also be used in developing artificial limbs or prosthetics (in the case of the disabled) and allow recipients of such technology to lead better lives. Therefore, we think that there is a subtle difference in the nature of charity between direct cash hand-outs and by using technology to intrinsically increase the ability of the recipients. In addition, although innovation and technology are gaining importance in Hong Kong, minority groups have less access to information about these developments. Therefore, we aspire to construct a new type of nonprofit organisation which uses technology to help the disadvantaged and disabled.
