Higher Education - Jena, Thuringia, Germany
The Jena School for Microbial Communication (JSMC) is a Graduate School of Excellence at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. Its main objective is to decipher all facets of microbial communication, which encompasses how microorganism communicate amongst each other, with higher organisms and with their abiotic environment. The JSMC integrates disciplines as diverse as biology, chemistry, physics, optics, medicine, pharmacy, biotechnology, geology, mathematics, physics and computer science in fundamental as well as applied PhD projects. Our integrative approach to research in these areas aims to achieve a holistic view of microbial communication and microbiology in general. The doctoral program at the JSMC includes the involvement of several non-university research institutions (Max Planck, Leibniz, Frauenhofer and Helmholtz) as well as industry partners in collaborative research projects.
