‘Maathr' is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘mother'. A popular Vedic hymn from the Taittiriya Upanishad, "मातृ देवो भव", relegates mothers as divine in their being. Yet, in a country whose culture and traditions affords a reverent stature to mothers, little is currently being done to better the lived experiences of mothers. Motherhood is a journey that is fraught with as many challenges and obstacles as it is sowed with feelings of joy and purpose. We at Maathr hope to shed light on how the journey of motherhood bears an impact on women's mental health, and devise ways to overcome its obstacles while optimizing joys.
