Meatpaper was an independent quarterly journal covering art and ideas about meat. Neither pro nor con, Meatpaper was founded in response to a groundswell of interest in the ethics, aesthetics, and cultural significance of meat. Meatpaper articles were from many different disciplines — including journalism, anthropology, personal narrative, and poetry — with a particular emphasis on the people who spend their lives working with meat. Each issue featured original art, photography, and illustration. All cultures have customs and taboos associated with the eating of animals. Meatpaper aimed to show that examining these attitudes in an unbiased forum could illuminate larger cultural issues.
