Architecture & Planning - New York, New York, United States
Michael SJ Mazzella, Architectural Design ServicesIf you were to ask someone "What is architecture?" most would probably reply that "Architecture is buildings." If you ask us the same question, our reply will be simple – Architecture is Life. When we take on a project our clients in trust us with their homes, their businesses, their finances, basically they put us in charge in whole or in part with their life. Unlike other professions we are invited directly into their homes, the places of work. We get to see the side of life that most people never see. That junk room, filled with piles of memorabilia stored for years. Back office spaces that maybe we'd wish we'd never seen. But all in all, we become a part of their family, a co-worker, a partner and if we do our part right… develop a relationship based on trust that will last a life time.In architecture, there are, of course, basis laws of physics that we all must abide by. There are Building Codes designed to provide a safe environment and Zoning Ordinances which determine quality of life. Besides these few things, our client's dreams are limited to what we can create. In some cases, these items are very limited based on budget or need, but they should not limit our approach. Our approach to solving the problems placed in our hands should be one based on mutual respect. If we do our best, our very best, as we would do for our friends and neighbors, our clients will do the same in return. What better way of knowing you have accomplished something in life but by seeing people genuinely smile and be happy…
