The California Film Institute is proud to be at the forefront of promoting women and diversity in all aspects of storytelling through film. Through our gender equity initiative Mind the Gap, launched at the 2015 Mill Valley Film Festival, CFI is dedicated to actively working towards closing the gender gap in Hollywood and the rest of the global film industry. By providing an inclusive platform for emerging and established women storytellers and content, CFI is committed to attaining the MVFF programmatic goal of "50/50 by 2020". Mind the Gap showcases distinctive and compelling female-forward contributions in all aspects of the film industry, both in front of and behind the camera, celebrating the dynamic achievements of women in film and empowering a full spectrum of future filmmakers to better understand ourselves and others around the world.
