Founded in 2012, MINNESOTA FURS (MNFurs) is a civic, social, and educational 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization for the local Furry Fandom, those who have an interest in anthropomorphic animals in various forms. Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, MNFurs was created to educate our members and the public about the fandom as it expresses itself through anthropomorphic animals in multiple channels. The community came together in 2012 and formed an organization to run events throughout the year. The goal was to start a local convention. The first Minnesota Furry convention, Furry Migration, happened two years later with an attendance of 543 people and 115 fursuiters (custom-made animal suits of an original character).Today, we have over 2,000 followers on our social media channels, and our last convention had 1132 people and 252 fursuiters. We have held numerous picnics, conventions, and meetups. COVID-19 has slowed our in-person events, but it let us refocus our events to be better when we get together again. The MNFurs Board of Directors took this time to redefine the organization's purpose. They wrote the following vision statement, mission statement, and the core values of our members.Our vision is to create a safe and diverse Minnesota-based Furry community through volunteerism.We support our vision with the mission of providing resources to the community to help cultivate education and acceptance through year-round events.Our members display the core values of Equity, Mentoring, Diversity, Creativity, Passion, Caring, Volunteerism, and Relatability.
