Monteverde Conservation League US, Inc., founded in April 2002, was formed primarily to support the work and programs of the Monteverde Conservation League (MCL) in Monteverde, Costa Rica which owns and maintains 54,000+ acres of the Bosque Eterno de Los Niños (Children's Eternal Rainforest). Our goal is to aid the MCL and other organizations in their efforts "to support the conservation and rehabilitation of tropical ecosystems and their biodiversity."We are governed by a volunteer board of directors, which includes Dr. Peter Raven and Dr. Thomas Lovejoy, and our current president, Laurie Waller. We publish a monthly newsletter describing progress made and other news. We provide educational outreach to groups seeking curricula or guest speakers. We offer scholarships to students to be used to travel to the Children's Eternal Rainforest through our Student Ambassador Program. We occasionally have funds for teacher travel scholarships as well. We arrange a couple of annual open enrollment ecotourism trips to the Children's Eternal Rainforest and work with schools, families, birders, and other groups to develop individually customized trips designed to meet specific educational or other objectives. We are actively exploring the opportunities to secure funding through carbon offset sales. We were recently selected to be included in the elite group of nonprofits featured in National Geographic's Action Atlas.
