The NaBIS group integrates micro- and nanoscience in lab-on-chip systems for biological and environmental analyses. The objective of the group is to develop highly sensitive technologies for medical diagnosis, treatment monitoring as well as environmental monitoring. We specialize in application-driven research focusing on the entire process from manipulating the properties of biological structures, creating sensors and implementing everything in a reliable point of care (POC) device for efficient diagnostic and monitoring purposes. The fundamental expertise of NaBIS is the development of highly sensitive micro- and nanosensors integrated within microfluidic systems for biological and environmental applications. The performance of these sensors is optimized through theoretical simulations as well as rapid prototyping and is tailored for the application at hand. The NaBIS group focuses on interdisciplinary research in order to solve the versatile challenges of integrating micro- and nanoscience in biological analysis.NaBIS research focuses on creating intelligent point of care systems for personalised diagnostics and therapeutics and for monitoring.NaBIS has build expertise in the group in sample handling, microfluidics, modelling and implementation of the technology. To ensure NaBIS research can solve actual technological bottlenecks in diagnostics and monitoring, NaBIS collaborates closely with end users of the technology: doctors and researchers. The strong focus on interdisciplinary collaboration ensures that the best competences are united to create the best solutions possible. Professor Winnie E. Svendsen, an expert on micro and nano integrated systems for biomedical applications, leads the NaBIS group.
