Nonprofit Organization Management - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States
The National Negro Opera Company was founded in 1941 by Mary Cardwell Dawson and the National Opera House was a grand home for artist, musicians and students in the Homewood neighborhood of Pittsburgh. For locals and visitors alike, this house was a bedrock of culture, education and artistry for black people in the Pittsburgh community. Through the years, this historic site has become on the brink of extinction. In 2020, the National Trust for Historic Preservation added the building to its annual list of America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places. Our team of dedicated advocates have joined together in an effort to restore, protect and preserve this Historic Landmark and reclaim its original heritage, beauty and purpose.
