NPAN's mission includes local, national and international populations and is fourfold: • Provide education, advocacy, and emotional support to those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS • Promote research in the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS• Remove stigma associated with the disease• Promote prevention of HIV from the time of preconception through youthNational Pediatric AIDS Network has just completed 15 years of service and commitment to helping children, adolescents and women around the world cope with the effects of HIV/AIDS in their lives..NPAN's director began researching HIV and advocating for people with HIV/AIDS in1992 as a result of his wife and two young children being diagnosed with HIV. His wife died in 1995 and he started NPAN a year latter. Both children are now in their 20's. His daughter ,Alora Gale, and her husband recently had a child who continues to test negative for HIV. Gary worked as a volunteer with the Pediatric AIDS Clinical Trials Group (PACTG) for 5 years. The PACTG was the leading research organization in the world studying treatments for HIV infected children, adolescents and pregnant women. The PACTG, was a joint effort of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and the National Institute for Child Health and Human Development (NICHD)
