The NeedRoughly 1 Billion people live in the group of Least Developed Countries. These are countries that the UN has singled out as facing some of the largest obstacles to their development, making it difficult for their citizens to cover even their most basic needs. Many people living in these countries, and especially those living in rural and remote areas, often end up relying on environmentally harmful activities to sustain themselves.Communities often cut trees for fuel, allow their livestock to overgraze land, or burn down forests to make space for farms. Waterways and coast lines are often polluted and over exploited. This can have devastating effects on local habitats and bring native species to the risk of extinction. Depleted natural resources can also be a serious impediment to a communities' development, but at the same time, when few resources are available, lifestyle changes are also difficult to implement. Our MissionNew Green Path believes that by bringing about projects that link livelihoods to local environmental protection, it can help communities to support and conserve them. Green Path has a conservation mission that focusses on local communities. Only with the engagement and buy- in of local people can practical land management and habitat protection strategies be successfully implemented.Investment in livelihoods and job creation, particularly in those areas with strong links to the environment, can bring about much needed economic development, whilst at the same time, shifting a community's relationship to nature from one of exploitation and mismanagement to one of stewardship and protection.
