Civic & Social Organization - New York, New York, United States
New York Foundation for Senior Citizens (NYFSC) is dedicated to helping New York's older adults enjoy healthier, safer, more productive and dignified lives in their homes and communities and to help them avoid the need for premature institutionalization. Established in 1968, NYFSC is the only non-profit, non-sectarian organization serving New York's older adults in all five boroughs.NYFSC continues to grow. From modest beginnings of one social worker and one bookkeeper, the organization now has more than 1,500 employees to address the needs of the City's seniors. NYFSC manages 35 social service programs, in addition to more than 900 units of housing. This important work is made possible with the leadership of our Board and the amazing efforts of NYFSC's staff.NYFSC's programs are funded by Federal, State, and City governments and by private contributions. Supporters are confident that NYFSC will continue to achieve the best outcomes for the older adults through its commitment to achieving results, keeping overhead low and carefully managing budgets. Each year, tens of thousands of elderly New Yorkers benefit from NYFSC's wide array of innovative social services. NYFSC is continually exploring and implementing new approaches to meet the needs of this growing population. This commitment to innovation and excellence has been recognized by social service organizations worldwide, perhaps most evident in the programs they have modeled with NYFSC as a guide. With the older adult population continuing to grow and live longer, NYFSC's mandate is clearer than ever – to continue to provide services that meet the needs of older adults while seeking new solutions that work.
