London In Vitro Diagnostics Co-operative is one of eleven national centres of expertise funded by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR). Based at Imperial College London, St Mary's Hospital, the aim of our centre is to develop methods to support the validation of diagnostic tests – especially in vitro Point of Care (POC) tests that are undertaken close to the patient (as opposed to in the laboratory) – to allow these to be integrated into clinical practice. POC tests can produce faster results, and facilitate rapid decision making. This will lead to improvements in the quality of care, giving an enhanced experience of the NHS.We have expertise in Human Factors research, systems risk assessment, stakeholder analysis, decision analysis and system design, patient safety, and barriers to implementation that we can be used at different stages of the design cycle to enhance the product design and its integration.
