The National Law School Queer Alliance was founded in 2015 as a support group for queer students on the NLSIU campus. The alliance now goes beyond that initial mandate, and works to further queer and allied causes, particularly in the field of education. In 2016, we made it to the shortlist of the Herbert Smith Freehills' Community Engagement Awards. We also successfully organized a conference on transgender rights on campus in association with CREA, an NGO based in New Delhi. Moreover, in 2017 we collaborated with Payana to organise a workshop on Transgender issues in educational institutions, had Jessica Lynn come down to talk to us about her Transgender journey, and had an interactive session with Prof. Thomas Waugh on patterns of sexual subversion in Indian cinema.
