Plan Angel (PA) is a non-profit and non-governmental organization registered in 2010in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It is a human rights organization that aims at bringingtogether families separated by adoption. Plan Angel believes that every child has theright to know its origin and identity; and strives to reunite the adopted children with theirbiological family. It undertakes research around adoption especially to that ofintercountry or international adoption, identifies adoptees and their biological familiesthrough DNA test and paves a way to their reunion. The organization raises awarenesson the causes and consequences of adoption, human rights violations and abusesinvolved in the adoption industry; and provides advocacy for policy refinement. Plan Angel works with likeminded professionals and organizations to engage with thegovernments and relevant stakeholders to influence the adoption policies andconventions in the best interest of children, adoptees and their parents so that theirfundamental rights and identity are protected. The founder and director of Plan Angel Marcia Engel herself has been adopted and hasundergone several hardships, abuses and challenges in her life. This became thepivotal motivation for the establishment of an organization dedicated for the protectionof the rights of adoptees and their biological families.
