In 2019, Pongalo merged with Discovery Communications-backed VIX. The combined company was later acquired by US Hispanic media leader Univision.Originally launched with a subscription model, Pongalo's direct-to-consumer streaming service quickly evolved into a free, ad-supported offering, becoming the largest player in the Latino space. Additionally, the company built one of the largest IP libraries of Latino-focused films and TV shows featuring both original and licensed titles from Latin America and Hollywood. Key partnerships with major distribution partners included Apple, Google and Amazon, where, in particular, the company became one of the largest suppliers of Hispanic content to Amazon Channels. The company was named as one of the 101 best startups in Los Angeles by Best Startup.Pongalo's institutional shareholders included Revolution Studios (Carlyle/Content Partners), Canyon Creek Capital, Digital Bridge, 500 Startups and others. The company was formed in 2014 by media veteran Richard Hull under the name Latin Everywhere, and was later renamed Pongalo.
