In 2019, Pongalo merged with Discovery Communications-backed VIX. The combined company was later acquired by US Hispanic media leader Univision.Originally launched with a subscription model, Pongalo's direct-to-consumer streaming service quickly evolved into a free, ad-supported offering, becoming the largest player in the Latino space. Additionally, the company built one of the largest IP libraries of Latino-focused films and TV shows featuring both original and licensed titles from Latin America and Hollywood.
