Project Mapping Lives is a student-run social initiative which believes in the power of a good education. We aim to bridge educational gaps in the Indian public schooling system by creating a platform for underprivileged students explore social values and morals, which are often left unaddressed, all while placing a strong emphasis on critical thinking. We believe that quality education does not merely refer to the delivery of academics, but rather can be measured by how the learning environment as a whole can create a well rounded individual. An education should be able to produce a critical thinker of the 21st century. A child's education should allow a them to question, reason and reflect on the world around them and feel challenged to think deeper. Our sessions are carried out with Balwadi School students of grades 4 or 5 who study at the The Shri Ram School, Moulsari's campus in the afternoons. We develop and deliver our own sessions. Each module is centered on a single value such as breaking gender stereotypes, animal cruelty, saving the environment, bullying and so on. The basis of the sessions are discussions in the form of Socratic dialogue, which facilitates opinion building. These discussions typically stem from stories that we read to them, videos or pictures. In order to ensure that the children do not get bored and stay engaged we include various games, activities and writing tasks to enrich their learning experience.
