The Public VR Lab is building a Community VR/XR movement and a new field that values accessibility, digital inclusion, and diversity in XR. Watch our public interest XR reel here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V89HsxLoI7E The Lab was started in early 2016, and has since created eight XR projects in the public interest, including partnering with the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP)and Datavized to co-produce a customized global air pollution VR experience, and was invited to the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) in Nairobi, Kenya in December of 2017 to demo and speak about Community XR environmental and municipal projects. The Lab launched its first VR Ecohack in 2017 on Earth Day, and will launch its second in April 2019 on WebVR and accessibility. The Lab leads a national XR filmmaking collaborative, called Immigration in Full Frame, with 15 partners; and trained the STAT news team at the Boston Globe to create three immersive journalism experiences. The Lab provides classes and extensive training in six different methods for creating XR content in the public interest, access to equipment, hackathons, events, and residencies and fellowships for artists, storycoders, researchers, and media makers in Boston/Brookline, MA. The Lab also offers low-cost VR Toolkits and curriculum for libraries, museums, arts and cultural organizations, educators, independent media makers, and municipalities.
