At Pypus Lithium Publishing, we publish science fiction comic books for kids between the ages of 8 and 13 in English, Sotho and Zulu. Our aim is to promote concepts in science and technology throughstorytelling and play.We envision a world where African content producing companies sell comic books to African locals and export their products worldwide. To contribute to this in the long-term, we plan to produce local comic booksfor kids in the rural and township communities for them to read and buy inlibraries and retail stores. To achieve this we operate across 4 pillars, namely : rural and townshipengagement, comic book readership, commercialisation through retail, anddesign and manufacturing of comic books.Along the "rural and township engagement" pillar, we use retail stores, schools, public libraries, NGOs and institutions in rural and townshipcommunities to form partnerships to make comic books and graphic novelsaccessible to kids.Along the "comic book readership" pillar, we use rural and townshipcommunities that have public and schools libraries that kids visit regularly, and establish book and robotics clubs to drive comic book awareness throughreading and help build an interest in robotics within those communities.Along the "commercialisation through retail" pillar, we use wholesalers, bookshops, retail and online stores that have an appetite for local andindependently produced products and negotiate contracts that will drive themarketing and distribution of our comic book and toys to our customers.Along the "design and manufacturing of comic books" pillar, we use artists, writers, editors, translators, graphic designers and 3D modellers throughconceptualising and designing content and character development to drive the production of speculative stories that are relatable to our readers.
